The bodies of hundreds of New Yorkers who died at the peak of the pandemic are being stored in refrigerated trucks on the Brooklyn waterfront.
The bodies are of people whose families cannot be located or cannot afford the costs of a burial.
About 650 bodies are kept in a makeshift morgue established in April on the 39th Street Pier in Sunset Park.
In a statement, Dr. Barbara Sampson, Chief Medical Examiner, said it is not known if these people died from Covid-19, but that they died in the most difficult moments of the pandemic.
