On Wednesday, the Kyiv government announced that at least three people were killed and others injured when a Russian missile hit a residential building that was completely destroyed in the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russians are trying to make gains they can brag about on the first anniversary of the war on February 24, particularly on the eastern front. Parts of Kramatorsk are controlled by Russian-backed separatists.
On Wednesday, a Russian missile targeted a residential building in the city Kramatorsk Ukrainian destroyed it completely, killing at least three people and wounding others.
The governor of the region, Pavlo Kirilenko, confirmed that “the Russian occupiers bombed a residential building in the city center with a missile that completely destroyed it.”
The official website of the region’s police indicated, in preliminary information, that “3 civilians were killed, in addition to the injury of 20 people.”
Commenting on the missile strike, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “Peaceful people were killed while they were under the rubble.”
He added, “This is the daily reality of life in our country. A country that borders on absolute evil.”
Kramatorsk is in the eastern region of Donetsk, parts of which have been controlled by Kremlin-backed separatists, including its largest city, since 2014.
Moscow seeks to control the entire region, after declaring it part of Russian territory last year.
Eastern front
In another military assessment, the Ukrainian president said Wednesday that the situation on the front lines in the east of the country is getting more difficult as Russian forces intensify their offensive.
Russia gained momentum battlefieldAs it announced progress in the north and south of the city of Bakhmut, especially since it has been a major target for months. The clearly announced combat positions indicate an increasing Russian advance.
“A definite increase in the offensive operations of the occupiers was observed on the front in the east of our country. The situation became more difficult,” Zelensky said in his videotaped evening speech.
Zelensky added that the Russians are trying to make gains that they can brag about on the first anniversary of the war on February 24.
Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said earlier that heavy fighting continues in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces are trying to seize territory near the city of Liman, a strategic logistics hub.
Russian forces were expelled from Liman in October 2022.
Maliar wrote on the Telegram application: “Violent fighting is raging in the east. The enemy is trying to expand the scope of its attack in the Liman sector. It is making strong attempts to penetrate our defenses,” noting that the Ukrainian forces are confronting an opponent that is more numerous and armed.
She added, “Despite incurring heavy losses, the Russian invaders continue their offensive in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlevka sectors.”
