One person was killed in an explosion in an apartment building on the English Channel island of Jersey on the French coast on Saturday. Two people were seriously injured and taken to hospital. At least twelve people are still missing, according to local media.
The explosion at the port of the capital Saint Helier took place around 4 in the morning. A three-story building has completely collapsed.
The fire caused by the explosion was later put out by firefighters.
Police say it could take several days for the missing people to be found under the rubble. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Local residents had called the fire brigade on Friday evening due to a smell of gas.
The government of the island off the French coast has asked residents not to go to the emergency room unless absolutely necessary.
