The capsizing of a ship off the coast of Louisiana, USA, has caused at least one death. Rescue workers are still looking for at least twelve missing on Wednesday. Six persons were rescued from the tempestuous water.
Two people were rescued by the coast guard, four others were retrieved from the water by ships nearby. The other crew members are still being searched. It is possible, according to the US Coast Guard, that people are still trapped in the capsized ship.
The 39-meter-long lift ship ran into problems during a storm in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday and capsized about 8 miles from Port Fouchon.
At the time of the incident, there were gusts of wind up to 130 kilometers per hour and the waves were about 2 to 3 meters high. At the moment, the weather conditions are still turbulent.
Lift ships are used to transport large equipment to and service oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The lift ship has extendable legs of about 75 meters that can touch the bottom of the sea.
