One person died on the N276 near Brunssum in an accident in which a regular bus collided with a scooter. One person was also seriously injured. Both victims were on the scooter.
Police say the accident happened around 5.15 am when a broken down car came to a stop on the side of the road. Another car collided with this car, after which a third car collided with the other two vehicles. Debris fell on the road.
A regular bus then tried to avoid the debris on the road by driving into the verge and hit the scooter.
Police have not yet released any information about the identities of the victims. Officers are investigating on the spot. The road is closed for that.
