According to local media, eyewitnesses heard a loud bang just before 11am this morning, followed by a plume of black smoke. Photos of a burned-out car in the hospital parking lot are shared on social media. Police say a taxi pulled into the hospital grounds just before the explosion.

One person was killed in the explosion. Another person was injured, but not life-threatening, according to police.

Police initially did not comment on the act, but did call in anti-terror police to investigate the matter. The circumstances in which the explosion took place were suspicious. According to the Merseyside Police Department. They kept all options open. Now three people (21, 26 and 29) have been arrested in this case on suspicion of terrorism.
