De Vries impresses at F1 test Abu Dhabi, Alonso very fast

The Formula 1 test day in Abu Dhabi has ended. Formula 1 veteran Fernando Alonso was ironically the fastest man on the track in the Young Driver Test. In his Renault, he drove a total of 104 laps on Tuesday, preparing himself for the real thing in 2021.

He managed to keep the two Mercedes test drivers, Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne, behind him. Behind the trio there was a gap to Robert Kubica (Alfa Romeo), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) and Juri Vips (Red Bull).

Red Bull driver Sebastien Buemi crashed in the morning and missed a lot of test time as a result, but in the end he drove a total of 76 laps, although this was considerably less than the average of the other drivers. Mick Schumacher was the slowest driver in his Haas car.

Check the overview of the times and the number of laps below. It is not clear which tires the drivers used on their fastest lap. They had a total of five sets of the medium C4 and two sets of the soft C5 compound to use.

Max Verstappen’s dominant victory gave Mercedes a serious headache. What does this mean for 2021? Tom Coronel, Ruud Dimmers and host Thomas van Groningen discuss it in the new RacingNews365 podcast, which can be heard below.
