The editors of De Telegraaf have lost confidence in the management of publisher Mediahuis Nederland, the parent company of the newspaper. This has been confirmed after reporting by a journalist’s trade magazine Villamedia.
Within the editorial board there is a lot of opposition to the appointment of the two new editors-in-chief, Kamran Ullah and Esther Wemmers. A large majority of the editors therefore lost confidence in the Mediahuis management.
“The management of Mediahuis Nederland has not taken any notice of a negative advice regarding the appointment of two new editors-in-chief of De Telegraaf”, the motion that has been adopted states. The editors also believe that the management of the media group “acted in an amateurish and harmful manner against the interests of De Telegraaf” in the appointment process.
Mediahuis Netherlands has not yet responded to requests from NOS for a response. Earlier, director Van Beemen said in a statement that he is “proud” that Ullah and Wemmers want to take a seat in the newspaper’s editor-in-chief.
Last month it was announced that Wemmers and Ullah will be appointed as of 1 June to succeed Paul Jansen, who will become a correspondent in the United States for De Telegraaf. Both have worked for the newspaper for years.
