The municipality of De Ronde Venen does not want Amsterdam to allow wind turbine blades to move over their land. The city council wrote this in a letter to the mayor and aldermen of Amsterdam.
Amsterdam wants to create more sustainable power and plans to do so by installing more wind turbines. The city is still looking for areas where these could be located, including the South East area
There are three possible locations in the area: on the A2, at the Holendrecht junction, at the drinking water company Waternet at Weesperkarspel or at the Diemerscheg. The first two border directly on the province of Utrecht and in particular the city of De Ronde Venen.
‘return’
If windmills were to be built in these places, the blades of the windmills could move over town land with De Ronde Venen. If that happens, Amsterdam needs permission from its neighbors. But they have already stated that they do not agree with this.
“If a wind turbine turns upside down across our city limits, we will not give permission for this under any circumstances,” the letter says.
No windmill around the corner
The city is Ronde Venen has been resisted for some time against Amsterdam plans. It is not only politicians but also the residents of the town who are against the turbines coming.
In previous municipal elections, De Ronde Venen voted against wind energy, he writes RTV Utrecht. So the nearby town doesn’t like that Amsterdam might want to put wind turbines close to the border.
Therefore, the town council makes an urgent request in the letter to drop inspection areas on the town border. “We have already stated several times that the initiatives at our town border are against local interests in our town,” said the council.
Final decision early next year
Last Tuesday, several residents of the city protested against the plans at a consultation night in Amsterdam. Several people protested at a consultation night last Tuesday in Amsterdam.
