De Librije in Zwolle is the only restaurant with three Michelin stars

De Librije in Zwolle is the only restaurant in the Netherlands that has been awarded three stars by Michelin inspectors. The selection of stars for 2024 was announced in Maastricht on Monday announced. Ten restaurants have been awarded the prestigious culinary award for the first time, bringing the Netherlands to a total of 122 star restaurants. That is three fewer than last year.

De Librije is the only restaurant that retains the highest distinction in the restaurant industry. The restaurant was awarded three stars in 2004 and has retained it year after year since. Until last year, Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen also received three stars, but these were dropped after the departure of chef Jannis Brevet.

Inter Scaldes made a new start and managed to acquire two stars again on Monday within a year after the takeover. The new owners brought the Zeeland restaurant “back to the top of Dutch gastronomy” in a short time, according to Michelin. This means that the restaurant has had at least two Michelin stars for forty years.

Eighteen other restaurants retain their two stars. Eight restaurants were also awarded a green star for the first time, recognizing them as leaders in the field of sustainability. A total of 23 restaurants carry this distinction. Restaurant Lutum in Wijk bij Duurstede received both a green and a ‘normal’ Michelin star.

Last week, Michelin announced that the Netherlands has fifteen new Bib Gourmand restaurants. This award goes to restaurants where the price-quality ratio is very good.
