De La Soul have announced a ticketed concert at New York’s Lincoln Center in January.
The band’s home concert will mark their first in 16 months and will take place on January 17, 2025 at the Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic. The on-sale date has not yet been announced, but tickets will be available here.
An event page listed a suggested payment of $35, however, the minimum ticket price for other events in Lincoln Center’s Choose-What-You-Pay series is $5 .
ZikNation Ali Shutler attended De La Soul’s concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall last year, calling it a “moving and exciting love letter to De La Soul”, in a four-star review. “He is unruly, free-spirited and above all, always inspiring,” wrote Ali Shutler.
The show took place after the tragic death of David “Trugoy The Dove” Jolicoeur. Jolicoeur died in 2023 at the age of 54.
Last year, the band’s catalog was finally available on streaming platforms.
De La Soul’s classic albums were not initially released for streaming due to a conflict with their label, Warner Records, who would be unwilling to allow the samples to be released digitally. Apparently the samples used in these early discs were only allowed to be distributed on physical media.
De La Soul’s catalog was subsequently purchased in 2017 by Tommy Boy Records and in 2019 the band announced that their music would soon be available on streaming services. However, a royalty dispute delayed this release until 2021, when Tommy Boy was acquired by Reservoir Media in a deal reportedly worth $100 million (£80 million).
A few months later, rapper Talib Kweli announced via Instagram that De La Soul was now entitled to his own masters “after years of being used by the record industry in the worst ways possible “
