De Graafschap coach Mike Snoei has sent director of professional football Eric Gudde of the KNVB an email to explain the reason for his decision not to promote his club and SC Cambuur to the Eredivisie. He doesn’t understand the motives of Gudde.
“The exact content of that email is something between me and Eric, but I could at least put a bit of my frustration into it. I just can’t follow him, I don’t recognize him anymore,” said Snoei on Sunday with Radio 1.
The KNVB does not apply a promotion / relegation scheme after the season had to end due to the corona crisis. This was to the anger of Cambuur and De Graafschap, who occupied the top two spots in the Kitchen Champion Division and were brought to trial on Friday.
“In almost all other countries the position of the current rankings is implemented, but with us only at the top of the Eredivisie. I have known Eric for thirty years, he was a real football man. How can you serve us like this? I couldn’t believe it when I heard it, “said Snoei.
‘ADO and RKC should not get another kick after’
Snoei naturally hopes that the judge reverses the decision of the KNVB, but does not want this to be at the expense of ADO Den Haag and RKC Waalwijk, who were relegated to the Kitchen Champion Division when the Eredivisie was shut down.
“I don’t think ADO and RKC should get another kick, I wouldn’t like that,” said Snoei. “Just twenty clubs in the Eredivisie next season. In England and Spain that is already the case and so it is possible with us. We should not all think too much in problems, but in solutions.”
The judge will give a ruling on Thursday in the case between De Graafschap, Cambuur and the KNVB. After Friday’s session, De Graafschap and Cambuur said they had confidence in a good outcome because the judge asked a number of critical questions to the KNVB’s lawyer.
