Italvolley flies to the final of the men’s European Championships! De Giorgi’s boys overwhelm France 3-0 in the semi-final in Rome, with a score of 25-21, 25-19, 25-23. After a first set played point for point (until 18-18), the Azzurri put the turbo in the next two sets with a super Romanò, the usual Lavia and the important entry of Sbertoli from the bench. The match against Poland is on Saturday at 9.15pm for the title. The President of the Republic will attend the final, Sergio Mattarellaas communicated to the president of CONI Giovanni Malagò.
The Italian national volleyball team is in the final of the men’s European Championships: France defeated 3-0 with scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23 in just over an hour and thirty minutes of match. The first partial is extremely balanced: the two teams attack hard and challenge each other blow for blow, remaining point for point even until 18-18. Sbertoli’s entry makes the difference, with Romanò’s dunks doing the rest: Italy scores five consecutive points, then closing the first set at 25-21 (despite a super Ngapeth). After the competitive spirit of the first match, De Giorgi’s team started very strong in the second set, immediately putting their noses forward with a great defense and the usual Lavia. Chinenyeze tries to keep his team afloat with a couple of successful spikes, but France trails by 4-5 points throughout the set. Italvolley then goes ahead 2-0, with a score of 25-19.
The French try to start with a lot of aggression in attack in the third set, but Romanò and Michieletto make no mistakes in the first two dunks: France calls the time-out at 9-5, once again 4 points down. Galassi also raises his level, with a couple of plays (a block and a serve) that make the difference in the economy of the set. France apparently gives up, comes back behind once again with Chinenyeze and then surrenders with 25-23 of the final 3-0. Italy wins and reaches Poland in the final. The title challenge is scheduled for Saturday 16 September, 9.15pm.
