De Gea’s chronology of the Ten Hag rampage at Man Utd vs Palace

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

David De Gea scolded Erik ten Hag moment Manchester United beat Crystal Palace. The following is the chronology of De Gea’s tantrum with the Hag at Man Utd vs Palace.

Man United played their third pre-season match against Crystal Palace at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia, Tuesday (19/7).

The Red Devils returned to playing attractively and won 3-1 over Palace. Anthony Martial (17′), Marcus Rashford (48′) and Jadon Sancho (59′) scored the winning goals, but were conceded by Joel Ward (74′).

In this new era, Ten Hag applies the MU principle of always pressing throughout the game. Even if they are already in a superior position or under pressure from their opponents, Ten Hag wants Man Utd to have the ball to put pressure on their opponents.

However, the principle was slightly forgotten by United’s players when they took a 3-1 lead over Palace and the game had two minutes remaining.

In the 88th minute Palace pressed MU. This condition made Aaron Wan-Bissaka backpass to De Gea. However, the Spanish goalkeeper then immediately threw the ball forward, into the middle of the field.

De Gea seems to have forgotten the Ten Hag principle that he must build attacks from the bottom by continuing to play from foot to foot even in dangerous situations.

De Gea’s decision to throw the ball was wrong in the eyes of Ten Hag. In a number of videos spread on Twitter social media, the Dutch coach immediately shouted at De Gea.

“David, what the hell are you doing,” said Ten Hag.

Ten Hag’s reaction became a debate for many parties, including fans and netizens. Some supporters believe that the decision taken by De Gea was none other than the fault of young midfielder Charlie Savage.

Savage is considered to have failed to open up space that would allow De Gea to keep playing the ball from below. Because of these conditions the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper prefers to throw the ball forward.

In the replay De Gea could have given the ball to the right to Ethan Laird, so that it remained in line with the Ten Hag principle of pressing the opponent even in dangerous situations.
