De Gea thinks he’s from Manchester, not Madrid

Jakarta

Duel Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United in the first leg of the last 16 Champions League make a name David De Gea be in the spotlight. For too long, he no longer feels like a player from Madrid.

Manchester United will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to face Atletico Madrid, Thursday (24/2/2022) early morning WIB. This game should be very special for David de Gea.

De Gea was a product of the Los Rojiblancos academy and went on to excel at professional club level. Man United then signed De Gea in the summer of 2011.

The 31-year-old man who was born in Madrid is currently entering his 11th season with the Red Devils. After more than a decade, De Gea had to face his former club. So long at Man United, De Gea feels like he’s not from Madrid.

“I like the fact that I was born in Madrid. But, at the end of the day, it’s just a city,” De Gea was quoted as saying on Man United’s official website.

“Now I feel as if I’m from Manchester, I just feel like a person from Manchester. The place you are loved and welcomed is your home.”

“I’ve been here for many years and, obviously, anything can happen in life, in the world of football. But, to be honest, I don’t see myself far from Manchester United,” De Gea revealed.

Even though he feels foreign to his hometown, De Gea has not forgotten that Atletico is his first club. Upon his return to Madrid, De Gea certainly wanted to give the best for Man United.

“Of course I will return home, to the club that gave me the opportunity to be who I am today. But this is just another game. Everyone goes there to win, especially me.”
