De Gea explains MU’s penalty kick strategy

(PLO) – Goalkeeper David De Gea has explained his tactics in the penalty shootout between Manchester United and Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final, something football “critics” did not notice.

That is the comment of the Mirror (England) today 24-4 after Manchester United struggled to beat Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley this morning. The two teams drew 0-0 after 120 minutes of play and MU beat Brighton 7-6 in a penalty shootout when Solly March was the only player to miss.

Man City is exhausted in the historic treble battle

(PLO) – Coach Pep Guardiola frankly admitted that Man City was exhausted in the battle to win the historic treble including the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

David de Gea kept a clean sheet for MU against Brighton but he was invisible in the penalty shootout. De Gea had very quick reflexes and made a brilliant save to deny Brighton’s tenth chance. However, De Gea’s ability to catch penalties has been “certified” for many years is very bad.

David de Gea admits he tried to put more pressure on Brighton’s penalty-takers. It makes a small contribution to helping MU reach the final of the FA Cup to meet rival Manchester City at Wembley on June 3.

It was a moment of relief and happiness for Erik ten Hag’s side as it came just three days after a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. The loss at Sevilla was especially painful for De Gea, who was at fault for every goal United conceded and put on a lousy performance.

Now, the 31-year-old Spaniard has put in a much better performance at Wembley, making a series of brilliant saves to keep United’s clean sheet against Brighton.

De Gea failed to save any of Brighton’s seven penalties in the shootout as the only player to fail was Solly March hitting the ball over the bar. Victor Lindelof was the one who made the 11m kick that decided to bring MU into the FA Cup final.

De Gea failed to save any of Villarreal’s 11 penalties in the Europa League final 2021. It was he who missed the decisive penalty in that fateful penalty shootout that made MU lose the match.

One United fan wrote on Twitter after the FA Cup semi-final disparaging the Manchester United goalkeeper’s penchant: “De Gea dashed in the opposite direction from every penalty but United still won!”. Another added: “De Gea just watches the penalties like we’re at home watching TV.”

However, while De Gea didn’t make any saves, one could see he did manage to put little pressure on Brighton’s penalty taker players, especially the real one. Undav’s third penalty. Goalkeeper De Gea held the ball for a few seconds and stood on the penalty spot, playing a psychological blow to the Brighton midfielder.

“It was a very tight game against a very good team who played really good football,” explained David De Gea after the game, “We are in another final, but before First we have another big game on Thursday against Tottenham to focus on.”

When asked about his penalty shoot-out tactics, De Gea admitted: “We have the penalties ready as always, I try to put pressure on each of their players. Our team took the perfect penalties so we’re happy to be in the final.”

De Gea added as he headed towards the FA Cup final: “It’s far from the final but it’s going to be a big game against one of the best teams in the world. But we showed that we can beat them. There’s a lot of time before that, so we have to finish fourth in the Premier League, before giving everything to the FA Cup final.

We’ve won a title (Carabao Cup) and we’re in another final, we’re playing better than last season. United are improving and we have to be ready.”

Center-back Victor Lindelof, who successfully completed the decisive penalty with a decisive shot into the top corner of the goal, said: “It feels great. It was a relief to win and reach the FA Cup final. I’m confident I can take the penalty I want. Brighton played well, they controlled the ball well but MU defended very well.”
