Manchester City’s Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, has been chosen this Sunday, for the second time in a row, Premier League Player of the Year by the English Professional Players Guild (PFA).
De Bruyne, 29, is the only player alongside Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo in being awarded by his peers twice in a row.
Premier champion, League Cup winner and Champions finalist Against Chelsea (1-0 loss), the Belgian has been one of the architects of City’s good season. ‘KDB ‘has scored 10 goals and provided 18 assists in 40 official matches with his team.
“You want to win all the trophies with the team and, obviously, if you win a trophy like this, it is probably the most prestigious reward of this championship“De Bruyne was delighted.
“Being rewarded by your teammates, with whom you compete in each game, says a lot. In my opinion, they are the people who know the game best and who try to reach their best level.“added the midfielder.
De Bruyne overtook his teammates Phil Foden in the standings (voted best young player of the year), Ilkay Gündogan and Ruben Dias, who appeared in the list of the six finalists along with Harry Kane (Tottenham) and Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United).
The season finale of De Bruyne was marred, however, by a double fracture to his face in the final Champions League, after an obstruction by Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger at the start of the second half.
Kevin De Bruyne underwent a minor surgery on his face on Saturday and will join the Belgian national team on Monday, with whom he will play the European Championship. The coach Roberto Martínez specified that the player will not be able to be for the first game against Russia on June 12.
