De Block: ‘Belgium will be able to start vaccinating in March’

The first vaccines against covid-19 should be available in Belgium in March. Minister of Health Maggie De Block stated this on Thursday The first one. These are vaccines developed by the company Sanofi.

The Open VLD minister confirms the estimates that have been circulating in recent weeks, including with interfederal spokesman Yves Van Laethem and with the top executive of the pharmaceutical agency (FAMHP) Xavier De Cuyper.

The Superior Health Council worked out a vaccination strategy in July, which was given the green light by the inter-ministerial Health conference. The target groups that will receive the earlier doses as a matter of priority – it concerns 1.5 million of the 7.5 million doses of the first vaccine planned for the spring – in March and April are healthcare workers, followed by the most vulnerable. Other groups can be defined afterwards.
