New York Mayor Bill de Blasio noted that more than 5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in New York City. Last week 553,342 doses were applied; which means that the goal of vaccinating half a million inhabitants per week has been met.
Regarding the inoculation campaign in the city, he announced that new vaccination sites will be installed during this week, highlighting among them one that will be located in Times Square and that will be dedicated to the cultural and entertainment community.
He pointed out that the film and television industry continues to produce, so it will be part of the economic recovery of the city. So they are working closely with the unions to get in touch with their members.
During her participation in the press conference, actress Michelle Hurd thanked the dedication of a vaccination center where members of the entertainment industry in the city will have the opportunity to be inoculated. Another participant was Rebecca Damon, president of the actors union SAG-AFTRA, who summoned the members of her group to go to the vaccination center.
De Blasio announced that the public school re-enrollment program for face-to-face classes had approximately 50,000 applications.
Regarding the new indicators used to measure progress in the fight against coronavirus, the most recent data showed:
- Number of positive cases admitted to hospitals: 167 (58%)
- Number of hospitalizations per 100,000 population, 7-day median (NYS): 3.12
- COVID-19 reported cases, 7-day average: 2773
- Percentage of patients who tested positive, 7-day average: 5.27%
