The new action RPG is inspired by the classic universe of the table RPG ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ (‘D&D’) will be available via Game Pass for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. In addition to the possibility of solo adventure, the new Dark Alliance brings cooperative modality for up to four players online, with real-time combat.

You can choose between characters already known from the Forgotten Realms’ D&D scenario: the black elf Drizzt Do’Urden, the human archer Catti-brie, the dwarf Bruenor or the barbarian Wulfgar. The list of opponents should also sound familiar to veterans of Dungeons & Dragons and includes ice giants, beholders and white dragons that circulate in the Valley of the Cold Wind.

Inspiration from the past

As the subtitle reveals, this new Dungeons & Dragons is a spiritual successor to ‘Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance’ (2001). Originally published for consoles, the inaugural game of the Dark Alliance franchise was successful on Xbox and Playstation 2. In 2021, it was relaunched for the current generation, on Xbox One and PS4 platforms, with backward compatibility for the Xbox Series X / S. Soon, the classic RPG will also be available on the Switch, but with no release date.

A continuation of the sequel, ‘Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2’, from 2004, is also in the plans of Black Isle Studios, responsible for both titles, but still with no definite date.
