The artist Alex Ross may be best known for his work in The Marvels y Kingdom Comebut now another of his classic projects returns at a particularly opportune time. Abrams ComicArts has teamed up with DC to relaunch the classic Uncle Sam seriesby Ross and screenwriter Steve Darnall, in a new collected edition format.
It arrives just in time for the Election Day in the United States e IGN can present exclusively a new preview of Uncle Sam: Special Election Edition.
What is the story of DC Comics‘ Uncle Sam?
Although the Uncle Sam exists as a superhero within the traditional DC universe, this interpretation of the character is intended to be a more subversive and satirical exploration of American history. The series follows the character as he wanders the country over the decades, encountering key historical moments such as the battlefields of the Civil War and the assassination of JFK, as he reflects on his country’s bloody past and its uncertain future.
“Uncle Sam: Special Election Edition is incredibly foreboding and a stunning example of Alex Ross’s work, highlighting his skills as a painter and his mastery of comics composition and storytelling,” says Charles Kochman, editor-in-chief of Abrams ComicArts, in a statement. “This story, written by Steve Darnall, is—sadly—more relevant today than when it was first published in 1997. “We are proud to put this vital graphic novel back in print, especially at a time when we need to have difficult conversations about our country’s history and where we are headed.”
