Although the DCEU appears to be in the midst of an overhaul, the latter could well decide not to develop the narrative arc of the famous Deathstroke.
While The Snyder Cut will officially land on HBO Max in 2021, the opportunity for Zack Snyder to take his revenge on the final version of Justice League Released in 2017, this new director’s cut will also offer viewers a chance to discover the director’s original plans for Deathstroke. Previewed alongside Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) in a post-credits scene, the character played by Joe Manganiello was subsequently to appear in The Batman, a film directed by and for Ben Affleck – before it was dropped – then in a solo film. Moreover, if fate wanted otherwise concerning the project on the bat man, the bitter failure of the Justice League by Joss Whedon would have also forever sealed the more than uncertain future of Deathstroke within the DCEU.

In the absence of Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder, it is indeed unlikely that Deathstroke will have in the years to come, a place in the universe and this despite its current overhaul. Moreover, while the Snyder Cut could unveil new images of the character going beyond the post-credits scene, this long-awaited version does not appear to include any sequences capable of compensating for the potential lost by the studios vis-à-vis the interpretation of Joe Manganiello. Finally, although the introduction of the Multiverse thanks to the film The Flash, or the recent series project announced by HBO Max centered on Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, may be the opportunity to portray Deathstroke on the big or small screen, the future of the character at Warner still appears uncertain. What ultimately disappoint many fans, eager for a long time to follow the adventures of one of the most iconic supervillains in the DC universe.
