In order to respond to the great patient interest due to the increase in whooping cough cases, especially among children, DCC “Palmed” introduced a PCR test for diagnosing the disease. Testing is done using a swab of nasopharyngeal secretions. The test is carried out on working days of the week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the only condition being that the patient has not used nose drops or nasal creams and ointments up to an hour before taking the sample.
The “Pulmed” microbiology laboratory has the most precise tests for detecting the causative agent of whooping cough – the gram-negative bacterium bordetella pertusis. The results are obtained on the same day if the sample is taken before 12:00 noon, and if it is later, the result will be ready in the afternoon of the next day. The price of the study is BGN 45.
Doctors warn that the disease is characterized by prolonged coughing, most often in babies and small children with incomplete immunization status or those who have not been vaccinated. Early diagnosis of whooping cough is a guarantee for a faster and more efficient cure, as well as for limiting the spread of the infection.
