DBV and Verdi Union Strike Calls for Fair Salary Increases: Postbank and Deutsche Bank Affected

The strike by Postbank back office employees began today. The call from the Verdi union primarily affects employees in the back office areas in order to force negotiations for fair salary increases, as Verdi negotiator Jan Duscheck announced.

Locations of the actions include Hameln and Hamburg as well as Dortmund/Essen, Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich and Saarbrücken in the coming days. According to Verdi, the strikes will have a “noticeable impact on the processing of customer concerns nationwide”. This included activities such as opening checking accounts, loan disbursements and account seizures.

The German Bank Employees Association (DBV) has also called for a strike: at the Essen location of Deutsche Bank’s PCC Services GmbH from Wednesday, April 3rd to Thursday, April 4th. The DBV is demanding a salary increase of 14.5 percent.

15.5 percent more money demanded

According to its own information, Verdi is demanding 15.5 percent more money for the approximately 12,000 Postbank employees and the employees in its affiliated companies, but at least an increase in salaries of 600 euros and protection against dismissal until the end of 2028.

The parent company, Deutsche Bank, made a new offer at the beginning of the week. Accordingly, she wanted to pay 6.4 percent more wages, but at least 250 euros more, from June 1st, and two percent more wages from July 1st, 2025, with a term of 29 months and protection against dismissal until the end of 2026.
