Culture (lat. culture – cultivation) determines the state of social, economic and intellectual life in one or another era. Culture expresses and reflects the totality of material and spiritual values created by humanity at each stage of its development.
Precisely because of this very nature, culture from ancient times to the present day plays an essential role in strengthening international partnerships and is a reliable method of building bridges between people and countries. Cultural exchange is the most powerful social engine for improving mutual understanding and dialogue between people and nations, a stimulus and catalyst for economic development and market growth, for social upliftment and spiritual catharsis of humanity. The cultural industry stimulates economic industry and technology.
Cultural exchange contributes to overcoming conflicts, prejudices and stereotypes in interpersonal and international relations and is a reliable means of unity, so necessary in modern society.
The UN, UNESCO and the European Union take care of cultural exchanges between nations and the preservation of cultural heritage, which can be briefly illustrated by a number of legislative and initiatives and adopted legal documents:
In 1972, the Convention for the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted in Paris.
On November 26, 1976, the UNESCO Recommendation on the International Exchange of Cultural Values was adopted in Nairobi.

THE DAYS OF RUSSIAN CULTURE IN BULGARIA ‘2018 – UNION OF THE SPIRIT
The Days of Russian Culture in Bulgaria in 2018 are dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria from Turkish slavery! They are carriers of beauty and kindness and express the unity of the Spirit!
This is the strongest impression and the deepest trace in the souls of the people who touched Russian art in Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Pliska, Kavarna, Balchik and Pomorie in the June months of 2018.
The cultural events are organized by the hosts – the Municipalities of Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Pliska, Kavarna, Balchik and Pomorie, the Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Balkan Countries – Russia, the International Organization “Art without Borders”.
The Russian cultural holidays in Bulgarian cities in 2018 caused spiritual delight and admiration all manifestations:
1) Exhibitions of paintings by Russian artists – Academician Grigory Pototsky, Pavel Wolfson, Nataliya Adus, Lyubov Stroynova, Sergey Gnedoi and Yevgeny Burmakin. The opening took place with a musical program of folk performers from Russian ensembles from Moscow and the Moscow region. The curator of the exhibition is Lyudmila Kozina.
Various genres are presented, which give an idea of the creative endeavors of contemporary Russian artists and of Russian artistic traditions. In addition to painting, sculptural compositions, decorative ceramic figures, textile panels are presented.
2) Concerts with the participation of folk ensemble “Kyrillitsa” from Naro-Fominsk led by Alina Tikhonova, youth dance ensemble “Fantasia” from Podolsk led by Olga Kasatkina, dance ensemble “Fantasia” from Moscow led by Irina Guseva, vocal ensemble “Premier” from Podolsk with head Lyudmila Shashkina and folk singers Svetlana Miroshnichenko and Lidiya Muzalyova.
3) Unveiling of a bust-monument of the Russian poet and singer Vladimir Vysotsky in the Writers’ Alley in the “Cyrillic Courtyard”, Pliska, Stara Pliska complex. The event is on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the creator’s birth. The bust-monument of the poet with the guitar was created by the Russian sculptor Academician Grigory Pototsky.
The Cyrillic yard in Pliska was created by Karen Aleksanyan, an Armenian businessman living in Shumen. The initiator Karen Aleksanyan shares his reasons for creating the Cyrillic Court as follows:
– Searching to revive the place from where the Cyrillic letters went to the world, to recall the memory of their greatness. Because the martyrdom of their creation and confirmation is a historical reason for pride and steadfastness of faith for all who use the Cyrillic alphabet. Unfortunately, these are values that are increasingly fading these days.

Writers’ Alley will be built by 80 busts of creators – honor and pride for national cultures that used the Cyrillic script as a way to the minds and hearts of readers. She will also lead visitors to the Court to the vast world of literary creativity, so that they can feel the spirit and learn more about the history of the peoples who wrote and wrote in Cyrillic. Under each pedestal will be a handful of soil from the writer’s native land. The busts will be executed by the best sculptors of the nations of which the respective writers are. Thus, visitors will be able to get an idea not only of the literary, but also of the visual art of each represented nationality.
The alley it gradually fills up. In addition to the already placed busts, here you can also see the authors whose monuments are to be unveiled soon, as well as information about the artists who created them.
