In Baden-Württemberg, the Ministry of Social Affairs has started delivering corona test kits for daycare centers. It is still unclear who should carry out the tests at the end.
The employees at many daycare centers are already being tested twice a week. As a rule, this is done by the municipalities and other providers. Now the 430,000 daycare children in Baden-Württemberg are also to be tested regularly. So far, however, there is no compulsory test.
Who should carry out the corona tests?
It is still unclear who exactly should carry out the tests. The Verdi union is demanding that the institutions be given leeway in organizing the tests. For example, the church sponsors have already gained experience in their care facilities and are doing well, said the Verdi country manager, Hanna Binder, to the SWR.
The fire brigade, technical relief organization, the Red Cross or the pharmacies could also partially take over the tests. The only important thing is that they take place near the daycare center. Where all of this is not possible, the parents have to take over the testing, says Binder.
Rapid tests for children all over Mannheim
With the tests delivered by the Ministry of Social Affairs, test offers should be made nationwide in the future. Various model projects have already been tested in individual day-care centers in the state – such as in Mannheim. So far, tests have been carried out there in twelve urban day-care centers, now the tests are being extended to the entire city. On Tuesday, according to the city, 110,000 test kits were delivered to daycare centers of all carriers.
Model project with tests also at daycare centers in the Böblingen district
At the same time, the district of Böblingen wants to test 1,500 children in a total of 26 daycare centers over the next three weeks. The children should be tested twice a week before they enter the day care center. “Until there is a corresponding regulation by the federal or state governments, we want to try out in a model how and with what results tests in the daycare area would be possible,” said the district administrator of the Boeblingen district, Roland Bernhard.
Various tests are used – in the context of the model phase, it should also be tried out which test is best suited. The tests are carried out by trained personnel.

Will the schools reopen after Easter – with the corona numbers rising? If it were up to the pediatricians, school closings should be the last option. Because there are now too many depressed children.

Stuttgart procures 120,000 self-tests for daycare centers
The state capital Stuttgart also announced last week that it would procure 120,000 self ‐ test kits for around 30,000 day care children. “To make it as easy as possible for both the testers and the children, the parents can test their children at home or at the day-care center, or the staff can do the test accompanied by the parents at the facility,” said Stuttgart’s mayor for youth and education. Isabel Fezer, with. The tests should start as soon as possible – a nationwide start around mid-April is considered realistic, according to the city’s announcement.
The city cited the reason for the measure that since the beginning of the year more than 100 educators and daycare children in almost a hundred kindergartens have tested positive. The seven-day incidence is in the age group of three to five years over 150, the city of Stuttgart announced last Wednesday.
