Dayana Yastremska will try to win the first Grand Slam final for Ukraine.
On Thursday, January 25, a Ukrainian tennis player Diana Yastremska (No. 93 WTA) will fight against the Chinese woman Zheng Qinwen (No. 15 WTA) for reaching the finals of the Australian Open-2024.
The semi-final match of the Australian Open will start no earlier than 12:00 Kyiv time.
By the way, in the quarterfinals Yastremska defeated the Czech Linda Noskova and for the first time in her career reached the semi-finals tournament of the Grand Slam series. In turn, Qinwen is in the 1/4 finals overcame the “neutral” Russian Anna Kalinska and will also debut in the semi-finals of the majors.
It should be noted that Yastremska already set a national record of Ukraine at the Australian Open and became the second Ukrainian in history after Elina Svitolina, who reached the 1/2 finals of the Grand Slam tournament in singles.
Previously, Svitolina played in the semifinals of Grand Slam tournaments three times in her career – twice at Wimbledon (2019, 2023) and once at the US Open (2019), but she lost each time. Thus, Yastremska has a chance to become the first Ukrainian tennis player to reach the final of a major.
