It is the great story of the contest. The Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (93rd in the WTA ranking) defeated the Czech Linda Noskova (50th) by 6-3 and 6-4 to earn a place in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
Yastremska took to the court determined to win. From the first point she was the one who commanded the actions of the match and left as the fair winner. Powerful, effective and hungry for glory, she is two steps away from entering the great history of tennis.

She is the fifth player since the creation of the Open Era to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam coming from qualifying. Previous? The Australian Christine Dorey at the 1978 Australian Open, the American Alexandra Stevenson at Wimbledon 1999, the Argentine Nadia Podoroska at Roland Garros 2020 and the British Emma Raducanu at the US Open 2021.
Dorey, Stevenson and Podoroska fell in that instance, while Raducanu achieved an unprecedented milestone by becoming champion.
