On May 8, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Second World War.

The emblem of the mourning holiday – red poppies – is a symbol of memory of those who did not return from the battlefields during the Second World War and died in the east of the country in the struggle for independence.

In Ukraine, they have long said: poppies bloom where Cossack blood was spilled. Therefore, the red poppy is not only a European, but also a Ukrainian symbol of mourning for the heroes who died in bloody wars.

College students made stylized poppies from paper and foamiran, and organized a flash mob “Poppies of memory”.

On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, an educational hour dedicated to commemorating the victims of the Second World War was held for college students. The students received information about the reasons for the beginning, character, and development of the Second World War. Special attention was paid to the unfolding of the Soviet-German war and Ukraine’s role in the victory over Nazism. It was also emphasized the global significance of these events in the process of forming the historical memory of the people

The Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation does not symbolize the triumph of the victors over the vanquished, but a warning – it is important to be able to protect peace, one’s land, and value life.

We remember – the one who defends his land always wins. A low bow to the feat of those who, at the cost of their own lives, showing heroism, courage and bravery, laid down their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.

The most important result of this war should not be the cult of victory, but the ability to value peace.

We remember! We are winning!
