As part of a nationwide day of action, Deutsche Bahn and the Federal Police carried out mask checks on trains and at train stations. Police officers were also on duty on the long-distance trains between Hamburg and Hanover.
At the train stations and on the regional and long-distance trains, not all passengers have adhered to the Corona regulations. At the Altona train station, on Jungfernstieg and at the main train station, police officers had to warn around 200 passengers because they did not wear mouth and nose protection. When asked, a police spokesman said: The number of violations of the mask requirement has remained at a constant level in recent months. If there were more controls, more crimes would come to light.
100 officers on duty
In the afternoon, the number of passengers without masks on the platforms and in the station halls was highest. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., a total of 100 officers were involved in the mask control. On the long-distance trains from Hanover to Hamburg and from Hamburg to Bremen, police patrols assisted the security forces of Deutsche Bahn with the priority control.
There were only a few violations of the mask requirement on the railways themselves. Wearing a mouth and nose mask is compulsory for passengers over the age of six on all local public transport buses and trains. The Federal Ministry of Transport had called for the day of action.

Controls on long-distance trains throughout December
Deutsche Bahn extends mask controls to the whole of December. In half of all long-distance trains, security teams made up of employees of the railway and the federal police are on board to indicate compliance with the mask requirement. This means that the railway is doubling its controls in long-distance traffic. The daily checks on regional trains and at the stations will continue to be unchanged.
Over Christmas there will be another increase
Breaches of the mask requirement in long-distance traffic of the Deutsche Bahn are now the “absolute exception”, according to the passenger transport director Berthold Huber. “So that it stays that way and our customers feel even more secure, we are again increasing the controls for Christmas,” he announced. In order to be able to offer more seats every day in order to maintain the minimum distance, the railway also wants to use special trains from December 18 to 27.
Those who take the train today may be checked more often. The occasion is a nationwide day of action. (07.12.2020) more
