Day 6 formation: The smaller parties come by

Political reporter Xander van der Wulp:

I am surprised that Rutte and Kaag have been invited to separate interviews. They have given such divergent advice that I would say let them have a joint conversation first to get more aligned. Actually, the scouts now have to solve the problem that Rutte and Kaag themselves caused.

Today the letter that Rutte sent to the scouts became public. In it he writes that a coalition with JA21 should be investigated first, but you can read between the lines that this suggestion is primarily strategy. After that comes his preference: to continue the current coalition with the ChristenUnie.

There is a big problem there: the ChristenUnie wants to lay down agreements in the formation about medical-ethical matters such as abortion and euthanasia, while D66 wants to leave that a free matter for MPs. That can become a blockage.
