Dax & dates in the daily stock market report

Düsseldorf Important impulses are likely to come primarily from the USA on Thursday: with Citigroup and the Bank of America two other major American banks present their balance sheets. JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs had already presented record profits the day before. The results of the food company Pepsico will be added to the bank balance sheets on Thursday.

Despite the US balance sheets, the Dax received little boost on Wednesday. After two trading days with little impulse on Monday and Tuesday, the leading German index closed 0.17 percent lower at 15,209 points. Listed in pre-market trading the Dax on early Thursday morning unchanged from the previous evening.

Investors are likely to take a look at economic indicators today: The analysis of the joint forecast project group provides an outlook on the further recovery of the global economy. In autumn, scientists painted a rather bleak picture for the months that followed. In addition, there are the forecasts of some leading German institutes.

What is becoming important for investors today

1 – Trade in the United States

The US stock exchanges closed inconsistently on Wednesday. The Dow Jones index of defaults went 0.2 percent higher to 33,730 points from trading. The technology-heavy Nasdaq lost around one percent to 13,857 points. The broad S&P 500 lost 0.4 percent to 4124 points.

The stock market debut of Coinbase was successful: The share of the crypto exchange rose significantly at the start on the Nasdaq, the first price was on Wednesday at 381 dollars. A good 55 percent above the reference price of $ 250 that had been set the night before. In two minutes, the stock shot up to over $ 400. But the paper later lost and closed at $ 328, well below the starting value.

The Nikkei index, which comprises 225 values, was 0.2 percent higher at 29,672 points. The broader Topix index rose 0.4 percent and stood at 1959 points. The Shanghai stock exchange was 0.8 percent in the red. The index of the most important companies in Shanghai and Shenzen lost 0.9 percent.

3 – US banks provide figures

With Citigroup and Bank of America, two other major US banks are presenting their balance sheets for the first quarter of the current year. Citigroup had earned $ 4.6 billion from October to December last year, seven percent less than the previous year. Revenues climbed five percent year-on-year to $ 70.4 billion. Due to increased costs, however, the annual profit fell from 7.3 billion dollars to 7.1 billion dollars.

6 – Curevac reports on financial results

The biopharmaceutical company reports on the financial results for the fourth quarter of 2020. In the first nine months of 2020, sales amounted to 42.8 million euros. This corresponds to an increase of 304 percent compared to the previous year. At 63.2 million euros, the operating loss was two percent below the previous year’s figure. Curevac is hoping for EU approval of its mRNA vaccine CVnCoV in May and plans to produce up to 300 million doses of the vaccine this year.
