Astronomers speculate that phenomenon could be seen in Brazil

The month of May will end with a meteor shower at dawn on Tuesday (31). And the good news is that the natural event can be seen in a large part of the national territory.

That’s because fragmented parts of a comet called ’73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 (SW3)’ could light up the sky with the celestial body. According to information from the National Observatory, the meteor shower, also called ‘TauHerculids’, could have more than 100,000 celestial bodies falling from the sky in just 1 hour.

Despite the information, in a note to the National Observatory, astronomer Marcelo De Cicco warned that it is not possible to say precisely what the intensity of the meteors will be. “It is not possible to predict accurately. It could be that nothing happens, it could be a light rain, heavy rain and even a meteor storm.”

Will the meteor shower be seen in Brazil?

According to the astronomer, the celestial bodies will be more visible in the northern hemisphere, as the height of the radiant at the peak, which will be between 1:55 am and 2:10 am, favors observation in this region. However, the possibility of Brazilians also being able to contemplate the beautiful spectacle is not ruled out. The inhabitants closest to the equator will be the most likely to see the meteor shower.

can also favor so that the meteor shower can be seen. “The Moon will be in the Nova phase, so it will not interfere with the visibility of these meteors, which will be, for the most part, less bright than usual due to their low speed of entry into our atmosphere”, said the astronomer.

How to observe the phenomenon?

To observe the meteor shower, the astronomer recommends that residents of the North and Northeast regions of Brazil pay attention to the Northwest direction and stay away from brightly lit cities.

“The latitudes close to the city of Manaus and just above it will be in the best position to witness this possible spectacle, rare and inspiring! We also recommend that you look for a very dark place, away from the lights of big cities, in a safe place, to enjoy this astronomical phenomenon”, he added.
