The Krefeld Pinguine have signed striker Davis Koch. The 24-year-old attacker comes from the DEL club Ingolstadt Panther. At the beginning of last season he was still playing in the DEL 2 at EV Landshut. The center then played 30 games for the Panthers and scored four goals. The striker, who was born in Surrey, Canada and now has a German passport, provided the groundwork for five more goals. In 2019 he moved to Germany. His first stop was the penguins’ future league rivals, the Heilbronner Falcons. For the Neckar team, he shone in his first season with twelve goals and a strong 30 assists. In the 2020/21 season, he scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 29 games for the same club.

Krefeld’s sporting director Sergey Saveljev says: “Davis is a technically strong and comparatively young player who wants to prove that he is underestimated and has not yet exhausted his potential. He shows incredible motivation and is also a good addition to the squad as a person. Davis’ strength is in the offensive zone, but he also doesn’t hesitate to work hard defensively and block shots.”

In Ingolstadt, Koch was therefore often used when outnumbered. On the Danube, those familiar with the scene were a bit surprised that the 24-year-old was allowed to go. He mostly played in the fourth row there, but did a good job there. Whenever there was a need, he would sometimes throw in the second or third storm. For the penguins, that commitment could prove to be a good move. Koch knows the DEL 2 from his time in Heilbronn and Landshut and has a German passport. In doing so, he does not burden the contingent player budget for the selection of the new coach Leif Strömberg. According to Saveljev, Koch will be the last signing for the time being. But what is still missing is a strong competitor for goalkeeper Sergei Belov and a strong attacking defender. Then the penguins would indeed be well positioned for the project resurgence.
