Davis Cup
The second edition of the Davis Cup final is scheduled to take place in Madrid in late November. Given the situation in Spain, which has been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, chief organizer Gerard Pique is not very confident. Above all, the prospect of a tournament without spectators does not please the Barcelona kicker.

The final tournament, for which Austria’s Davis Cup team also qualified for the first time, is to be held in Madrid from November 23 to 29. However, due to the Spanish government’s strict corona virus measures, viewers may not be allowed. “I’m a bit pessimistic. The Davis Cup without fans is difficult, ”said Pique.
The current situation in Madrid, where, unlike in other Spanish regions, the strict exit restrictions have not been relaxed, is fueling the pessimism of the FC Barcelona soccer star. “There is a lot of uncertainty. We listen to what the Ministry of Sports and the government are saying if we can have fans in the stadium. We’ll have more clarity over the next few weeks, ”Pique said in a TV interview with Movistar on Sunday.
Spain are defending champions
The Spanish world and European champion and his investment company Kosmos have acquired the rights to the traditional team competition for three billion euros. The Davis Cup was reformed after the takeover of Kosmos. Last November, the winner was determined for the first time in the new format with a one-week final tournament. Spain won thanks to superstar Rafael Nadal.
The ÖTV team also qualified for the second edition against Ukraine thanks to a 3-1 home win in qualification in Premstätten south of Graz. Captain Stefan Koubek’s team would face Serbia and Germany in Group F at the 2020 final tournament.
