BRATISLAVA – Footballer David Strelec will once again play for Slovan Bratislava.

He came to the team of the reigning Slovak champion from the Italian club Spezia Calcio on a one-year loan with the option of a permanent transfer, the Whites confirmed on the official website on Wednesday morning. The 22-year-old forward is already on the club’s roster before the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League against Maccabi Haifa. He appears on it with the number 13 on the jersey.

“It is very pleasant to return home. I am ready and determined to help the team. Two years in Italy have pushed me forward as a footballer and as a person, I feel wiser and I feel that I have learned something there. I believe that I will show it on the pitch. I want to help Slovan, to score goals, to have good numbers and to win. I am also looking forward to the white fans,” said David Strelec, who left Slovan for the Italian Serie A two years ago, but did not succeed in Spezia. He spent the past six months playing in the second division Reggin, scoring twice in 15 matches.

The 2023/24 season may not be the only one

“I am extremely happy that David is returning to the club where he grew up and where he entered big football. I believe that his return will be beneficial both for us and for him. We have been working on his arrival for a long time, with David’s representatives we they’ve been in constant contact, with things moving in the last ten days, I’m really looking forward to David wearing the white jersey again.

With Spezia, we agreed on a one-year loan with an option for a permanent transfer under fixed conditions, which we agreed with the club and the player. If everything goes well, David will become a Slovan player for at least another three years after this season. He is our pupil, he is still at a very good age and I am convinced that he will be an asset to the team and the club.” declared the general director of the club Ivan Kmotrík Jr.

The shooter is a pupil of ŠK Slovan Bratislava, went through the club’s academy, played for the Whites both in the youth categories and in the A-team. Even as an older teenager, he won the championship title (2018/19) in the club jersey, in the same season he started playing in the A-team, which also enjoyed a league triumph.

He also played a part in Slovan’s next two championship titles (2019/20, 2020/21). He transferred from Slovan to Spezia in the summer of 2021. He has 16 starts in the Slovak national team, for which he scored two goals.
