David Saunders, who plays for Cork City FC’s amputee team, is diagnosed with cancer for the third time. Fundraiser launched to help with medical costs.

David Saunders, an amputee football player for Cork City FC, has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time in his life. After overcoming cancer twice as a child, Saunders was recently diagnosed with advanced sarcoma. To help with medical costs, a GoFundMe was set up, raising over €60,000 in 24 hours. Saunders, a teacher and father of two, wrote on the fundraising page that he wants to ensure his family is provided for when he is no longer here. He hopes donations will help reduce the “financial toll” that cancer leaves behind. Saunders has represented Ireland in amputee football on 38 occasions.
