With just under a week to go before the start of the new legislature, next Thursday, July 20, the Senate and Chamber benches of the Historical Pact met with the national government, in the Casa de Nariño, in order to finalize details and priorities of the legislative agenda that will be processed from this new legislative period. Although the meeting was expected to be chaired by Petro, the president was ultimately not present.

One of the first changes, precisely, is that of the filing date of the labor reform, which ended up sinking in the last legislature. Once it was archived due to lack of processing in the Seventh Chamber Commission, the Government had announced that it would be processed again on July 20; however, it will no longer be so.

“The Minister of Labor (Gloria Inés Ramírez) informed us that the labor reform will not be filed on July 20, but that it will wait a couple of additional weeks, with some adjustments that are being made, not starting from scratch,” affirmed the president of the House of Representatives, David Racero, who nevertheless said that “As much as some claim that this is a clean slate, no. During the past semester there were great advances in the construction of the presentations, fed back with the congressmen, so it starts as far as we can build”.

But the representative to the Chamber did acknowledge that “Without a doubt, there are some adjustments that have to be made, the minister herself expresses it to us and we see it in good time with that announcement. Do not file on July 20, wait a little longer, refine, in such a way that when the conditions are filed, they will be better for discussion and approval”.

Precisely, another of the reasons for this meeting was to define the parameters for the recomposition of the government coalition, in order to guarantee the processing of the different executive initiatives in Congress, including the aforementioned reform. On this point, Racero specified that “What has been indicated is a coalition with congressmen who are truly committed to the change agenda.”

According to the congressman, “In all the benches there are congressmen who genuinely want to support this project, others without a doubt do not, and in that sense I believe that the change agenda is placed above, it is placed on the table, which is what is important, and With the Congress we are going to work hand in hand with all the parties”.
