Celtic legend David Provan claimed in The Scottish Sun that the Rangers believe Ibrox’s duo Jordan Jones and George Edmundson are expendable.

The former Celtic star made the comments after Nathan Patterson played for the Rangers in their Europa League game against Royal Antwerp on Thursday night.

The Scottish Under-21 international was one of five players who recently broke Covid rules.

Earlier in the season, Jones and Edmundson received seven-game bans from the Scottish FA Cup for Covid-19-related infractions.

While Jones, 26, was loaned to Sunderland in the January transfer window, central defender Edmundson, 23, was loaned out to Derby County.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Jordan Jones and George Edmundson must be scratching their heads at the reaction to the Rangers’ recent Covid violation.

“While Gers previously suspended that pair for two weeks before sending them out on loan, there was no Ibrox ban on Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu when they were caught partying.

“There is a reason for that. Jones and Edmundson are expendable, while Patterson is a player with adequate transfer value. There is no place for principles in this game.

No future for Jordan Jones and George Edmundson on the Rangers?

Neither Jones nor Edmundson were particularly good on the Rangers, as the winger and center-back failed to establish themselves in the starting lineup.

The Rangers are doing well without the 26-year-old Northern Ireland international winger and the 23-year-old English center back at the moment, and it’s hard to see them play for the first team on a regular basis again if they are at Ibrox next season.
