Manchester United’s hopes of signing Declan Rice from West Ham this summer have taken a hit this weekend when Hammers boss David Moyes made his intentions clear regarding any potential sales.
The 22-year-old, originally a product of Chelsea’s youth system before crossing to East London in 2013, is considered one of the premier defensive midfielders in the Premier League, a position in which United is desperate to get stronger.
The only specialist midfielder for the Red Devils is Nemanja Matic, whose age is against him, and Rice has been on the agenda for some time.
But while he admitted he might be forced to sell the England man, Moyes made it clear that it would take a lot of money to get him, or fellow midfielder Thomas Soucek, out of the London stadium.
“Yes, any club can bid on players, but we haven’t had any great offers,” he said (via Goal.com).
‘I hope we don’t get any, but if we do, like any other club, we would consider them.
I don’t know where the Bank of England is for Tomas Soucek, but I have told Declan that it would take the Bank of England and the Royal Bank of Scotland to catch him. It will have to be the Bank of the Czech Republic for Tomás too!
One ace United could have up their sleeves is Jesse Lingard. The midfielder is currently on loan at West Ham and is performing very well. Moyes has admitted that he would like to have a permanent contract, so he could potentially be used as the final weight in a bid for Rice.
