After Tomáš Plekanec, another great personality of Czech hockey ended his rich playing career. At the age of 37, striker David Krejčí decided to do so due to health problems.

When Krejčí announced the end of his career in the NHL in August, where he recorded 1032 starts and 786 points (231+555) in the regular season for Boston and another 160 games with a balance of 43+85 in the playoffs, it was expected that he would extend his career even further between the domestic elite.

The experienced striker, who was interested in practically all extra-league clubs, immediately announced that he would decide sometime at the turn of the year, saying that if he continued, his main goal would be the home World Cup, which the Czech Republic will host in May.

But now it is clear that he will not appear in the Tipsport extra-league or at the championships in Prague and Ostrava. The 2011 Stanley Cup and playoff scoring winner decided to end his rich playing career at the age of thirty-seven for health reasons.

“David came to this opinion after consulting a doctor, as injuries in the lower half of his body limit him so much that he cannot get into proper training and exercise,” reads the Global Management Sports agency, which represents Krejčí.

David Krejčí debuted in the NHL in 2007, where he played for sixteen seasons. He also has 80 matches (39+39) in the extra league. He helped Pardubice during the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season, and two years ago he played in Olomouc colors.

The native of Šternberk was also part of the support team of the national team several times – he appeared in three tournaments under five rings and four world championships, of which he has two bronzes from 2012 and 2022. He also has the Golden Hockey Stick from 2013 in his collection.
