Although he was increasingly asserting himself in league matches, he was not yet part of the starting eleven of the reigning champion in European duels. David Hrnčár therefore still had room for development in Slovan Bratislava, and his departure for a six-month loan with the option of a permanent transfer to the Belgian second division Beveren therefore surprised the public.
Therefore, the pupil of the Whites will not continue at Tehelno polí in the spring and has already joined his new employer, where he has completed his first training sessions.
THE COACH’S INTEREST
Why did David Hrnčár take such a step? “Coach Wim De Decker already wanted me at his previous stop in the second Belgian league (KMSK Deinze). It was a year ago. However, then Yuri Medvedev suffered an unfortunate injury, so Slovan did not reflect on the offer. In the summer my new coach headed to Beveren and called again, now it’s out. He followed me for a whole year and I felt that he was interested in me.
I didn’t have to leave Slovan, but under these circumstances I wanted to go. Finally, the clubs agreed on a six-month stay with an option for a permanent transfer. I am grateful for this opportunity. I think going west is an excellent career move. I’m sure I won’t regret it,” replied David Hrnčár, who preferred this engagement to the chance to fight for the Slovak double in the spring and other successes in the Conference League, as Slovan has already made it to the round of 16.
“I found it interesting for my career. I’ve played enough in our league. I am 25 years old and I wanted to taste abroad. And not only near here, I was tempted to go west. This is a fantastic opportunity. I want to try how it works in more developed countries. It’s a new challenge for me and I like challenges. I found excellent conditions here, everything works at a high level.
Seeing that it is a traditional first league club that wants to return to the elite. I have excellent facilities for development, there are about eight training fields. Something unreal, since we are talking about the second league. I’m happy that it turned out this way,” he explained the circumstances.
Belgian football is undoubtedly at a higher level than Slovakian football, but David Hrnčár is waiting for spring in the second league. Didn’t this fact discourage him? “There are more visitors here than in the Slovak first league. Why should I think like this? I don’t mind at all that we are in the second highest competition. Especially when we have progressive ambitions. We are second with the same number of points as the leader of the table from Beerschot and on Sunday we play against the first. No step back! I see it as a shift in my career and in my personal life,” he noted.
READY FOR ANYTHING
David Hrnčár has become an all-rounder in Slovan Bratislava, who can play in any position on the right side of the pitch. While in the past he played explicitly on the wing, today he has no problem with the position of right back, which was given space by the coach of the Whites, Vladimír Weiss sr.
“Beveren plays in a 3-5-2 formation, which suits me. So I should farm the whole line. This is exactly what the coach expects from me. For me it’s a big plus because it all makes sense.” stated David Hrnčár, whom we immediately asked if the new coach is counting on him in the lineup even for Sunday’s second league hit, which will tell a lot in the fight for promotion. “I don’t know, but I’m ready for anything!” he answered.
And what are his goals at the new address? “I want to assert myself and help the team to advance to the first league. Then play it. Everything is well set, everyone in the club is pursuing this goal. Of course, I want to keep improving. As a player and a person.
I have never lived abroad before, so it will be a new experience for me. My girlfriend is at home for now, she will come to see me a little later. I am improving my English, so for me it is not only a football school, but also a school of life,” stated David Hrnčár.
The path of the 25-year-old member of the wider national team to prominence was not easy. Although he grew up in Slovan, he had to win a place in the first team. After loan spells at FK Pohronie and FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce, he only received his first professional contract at Tehelno poli at the age of 23 approximately two years ago. He spent the spring of 2021 again on loan at Žitav and wore the white jersey for the last year and a half.
Since then, he has contributed to winning the championship title and has been in the group stage of the Conference League twice. He closed the autumn part of 2022 with a record of 7 goals, 3 assists in 20 competitive matches.
“I will remember the period in Slovan only in good terms. We won the title, we got into the Conference League. I have had a productive autumn. I have nothing to complain about and I’m happy with every experience I’ve had at my parent club.”
RECOMMENDATIONS ONLY
David Hrnčár can meet in Belgium with a trio of Slovaks who play in the first league. Patrik Hrošovský plays for Genk, Martin Regáli also came to Kortrijk in the winter, and the currently injured Ján Bernát is wearing the Westerl jersey, heading to this address in the summer of 2021.
The former Žilina midfielder made a similar move to his compatriot who is two years older. He also first went on loan to a second-league team, which managed to get promoted, and then he exercised the option for the services of our player. “I wrote with Jany Bernát and Reg. I am confident that I will meet them, since we are not far from each other. I spoke with Jany a long time ago, when my departure to Belgium was in play for the first time.
He also convinced me that I should go here. He told me I was going to be part of a fantastic environment. He expressly remarked that if I had the opportunity to go, I should not even hesitate. Simply, I received only positive responses,” stated David Hrnčár, who we also asked about the words with which his father and coach Norbert Michaloviec sent him off to Belgium.
“He told me his classic: Work hard and push through! My father is to be thanked for the fact that my transfer was successful. But not only to him. Also to my agent Michal Holeščák and his brother, also Slovan, for quick negotiations,” he added.
IN HIGH INTENSITY
The arrival of David Hrnčár explained his new club in broader contexts. “David came to us to help us fight for promotion. It is a clear signal that we are still trying to improve our team. We needed to raise the level of our game in the wing areas and David is a great fit for that.
He is able to attack from the defender position, but also from the wing. He has a large radius of action and can play at a high intensity, which we will need in the fight for promotion. I believe that he will help us achieve our goal and become an important player for us in the coming years,” noted Beveren general manager Antoine Gobin for the club’s website.
