(New York) Saturday, he will be on the decks, in an “emblematic” place of New York, still kept secret, for a charity concert, after having already delighted in mid-April a few thousand families confined from a balcony in Miami.

On the menu in particular, a remix success Empire State of Mind, rapper Jay-Z and singer Alicia Keys, tribute to New York, announces David Guetta, the French DJ at the two Grammy Awards.
He hopes to raise at least as much as the $ 750,000 raised in Miami for associations. This time, the funds will go to the Feeding America charity and the Mayor’s Fund, which itself works with several associations.
Before making New York dance from 7 p.m. local and “bringing joy”, he reconsidered his experience of confinement and spoke of his vision of the future, which he sees more united.
How is the confinement going for you?
Usually I’m always on my way to the next gig, on planes, hotel to hotel. It all showed me how important it is for inspiration to spend time behind your keyboard.
During this period, I said to myself: OK, it will be just me. I can take the time to create and try to do something new.
I am one of the lucky ones. I don’t have to worry about whether I’m going to eat next month. My confinement, I lived it in Miami. Right now I’m looking at the ocean so it’s not that bad.
I did some introspection. I have been truly blessed with life, and maybe I haven’t given back enough. So that’s what I’m trying to start doing.
The world of music has been hit hard by the pandemic. How do you see the future of the scene?
It’s going to be very hard for the DJs … We’re not going to lie to each other. I do not plan to be able to work before 2021. Our records which work generally go from clubs and festivals. There is neither one nor the other. How do we do it?
It’s time to work on your production, from home, to create music. I’m putting together an amazing catalog and when things restart I’ll be ready.
Can music play a role in this crisis?
I feel the need to do more pop … In times of crisis people need to feel good, and music has that capacity.
My most successful record was probably I Gotta Feeling for the Black Eyed Peas, and that was during the financial crisis. It was in 2009 … The world was going through a disaster and this so simple, joyful song became the biggest hit of my career.
I love the dark side of techno, but right now my mind is elsewhere. I feel more like writing songs that inspire people, to try to bring them joy.
The EDM (electronic dancing music) relies, in normal times, on the public and the dance to create an atmosphere. Is it possible to set up an atmosphere in times of social distancing?
(The) Miami set was one of the most amazing atmospheres I’ve ever seen. People want to be entertained, to interact … it is as essential a need as to eat or breathe.
When I took my car home, the whole neighborhood was still screaming. It was crazy, completely crazy.
These are not the ideal conditions, but it also gives something quite exceptional.
Rather than being in my room, I wanted to put on a show, to have real people in front of me, even if they were on their balcony or behind a screen.
What influence will this pandemic have on our future?
My hope is that this will be a clear demonstration that borders, social barriers, ethnic differences, all of that mean nothing.
The reality is that we are all equal in the face of this disease. I hope this is the conclusion people will come to.
Hopefully we will not end up with the opposite, a world in which people are more closed off, in fear of others.
