Actor David Duchovny (61), best known for his roles as Hank Moody in the series «Californication» and FBI-agenten Fox Mulder i «X-files», has in recent years been away from the spotlight as an actor. But that does not mean that he has sat still.
– Tried to break free
Since 2015, he has published four novels and two albums. Now he is out with a single called “Tessera”.

In an interview with The Guardian tells Duchovny how he has managed to balance the different roles in the entertainment industry.
– If I observed from the outside, I would say that I was a guy who tried to break free from some link, the actor says about himself.
– I believe that the limitations of being an actor are that you use your instrument to serve the words and visions of others. It’s not that I do not like acting, I do, but I wanted to express myself more. I guess there are common denominators between the singing and writing career, he explains.

– A nightmare
Between 2017 and 2020, Duchovny did not have a single role in a film or TV series. It was a deliberate break.
– There were no roles that I was desperate to do, and I did not have to do something I did not want to do. I tried to develop some shows that came a long way in the process, but never quite to the finish. I was not part of that market for three years, which was perfectly fine, he says.

– I tried to have a more practical approach and presence to the acting profession. I wanted to be more involved, and that’s damn hard. It is quite frankly a nightmare, but definitely worth it, Duchovny continues.
Back on screen
Duchovny admits that he is somewhat spoiled as an actor. He has had some unsuccessful attempts as a director, but reveals that he wants to try again.
The “X Files” stars reunited with a kiss
– I did my thing and went home. For the longest time, you have been working on a film for three months. But as a director, the same film is your job for at least a year and a half. You have to love what you make so much that you can keep doing it for so long, in addition to the fact that you can hardly talk about anything else when the film finally comes out – a year and a half later, he explains.

Whether he liked it or not, the acting profession rediscovered Duchovny. Last year, he starred in the movie “The Craft: Legacy”, and he will star in a comedy about the pandemic called “The Bubble”.
