After a poor result on the night from Sunday to Monday, LOSC players Jonathan David and Timothy Weah had better success to conclude their international window.
Two successes
The Canadians absolutely had to win to remain in control of their destiny in the race for the World Cup qualifiers in Qatar, they did, not without suffering. Indeed, after five short minutes of play, Panama opened the scoring on the Toronto lawn and put Canada in a very uncomfortable position. Nevertheless, the premises returned to the score on a goal against his camp of Murillo (28 ′) before being able to count on a Jonathan David who made the difference. The LOSC striker was first credited with an assist on a superb goal full of selfless Alphonso Davies to allow the Canadians to regain the advantage (2-1, 66 ′) before closing the mark on a cross from Davies twelve minutes later (4-1, 78 ′). This success against a direct competitor allows Canada to be the only third.
LOSC: Weah and the USA beaten, David and Canada do not benefit
For the United States, with whom Timothy Weah started and stayed on the pitch for seventy-three minutes, the task was no easier against Costa Rica. On their Columbus lawn, the Americans were also led quickly, the Costa Ricans finding the back of the net from the first minute of play. And like the Canadians, the United States equalized shortly before the half hour of play by Dest (25 ′), before an achievement against his camp of Moreira shortly after the hour mark (66 ′) does not give success to the United States far from brilliant. The essential thing is however acquired since the USA keep the second place of the standings, qualifying directly for the next World Cup, with one point ahead of Canada.
