The iconic illusionist David Copperfieldknown for his impressive performances and magical acts, is at the center of a legal dispute. According to recent reports, Copperfield is accused $2.5 million dollars by the board of directors of a condominium in Manhattan, after alleged vandalism to his luxury New York mansion.
According to People, Copperfield was accused by the board of directors of The Galleria Condominium for abandoning the building in 2018 and leaving it with many damages.
The complaint filed Aug. 6 specifies that the property is a lighthouse in a luxury complex, valued at approximately $7.4 million, on East 57th Street. The 67-year-old celebrity arrived there in 1997, but then moved in 2018 to the Sky Tower company.
The legal documents detail a range of alleged damages including: completely damaged bathtub, rusty faucets, moldy walls and ceilings affected by moisture. The lawsuit requires the victim to pay to repair the deterioration of the apartment, which also caused damage to surrounding buildings.
“He refuses to take these problems seriously,” and only makes “superficial fixes to the glaring problems,” the board says, adding that he has “no reason to do damage on his own apartment and let him go down completely clear. especially when you still own the unit and are marketing it for sale“.
Copperfield, known for his elaborate productions and magical acts, has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, a representative from the magician assured that the damage shown in the images is not current and is the matter of an insurance claim on the back of the building.
“The photos included in the complaint do not reflect the current condition of the apartment. “This is a legal matter and will be dealt with in court.”the lawyer told People.
This recent legal problem adds an unexpected twist to the life of the fraudster, who is still an influential figure in the world of entertainment.
This trial has caught the attention of the general public and his admirers, who are waiting to learn the outcome of the case.
