David Brown, a 15-year-old boy from Co Laois in Ireland, has died in a quad bike accident on Easter Sunday. A second male teenager was taken to hospital but is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries. Brown was a member of Portlaoise GAA Club, and tributes were paid by the club for the “shining star” who had an apparently bright future ahead of him. Brown was remembered as a “wonderfully talented and kind young man” who was also a gifted footballer and hurler. At his funeral, items dear to Brown were brought forward, including a hurl and helmet to symbolise his love of sport, the final jersey he wore in a match he played on Easter Saturday, a toy dog to symbolise his love of animals, a memory book that he made in playschool, and a family photograph. The Trexo for Jamie fundraiser has been launched to support the family of Co Laois boy Jamie Mannion (10), whose complex medical and support needs require ongoing care. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers.
