David Beckham’s Wife Victoria Annoyed by Lionel Messi’s Move, But Beckham Cheers Up After Signing

David Beckham’s football big day was initially just an annoying disruption for his wife Victoria. News of Lionel Messi’s move to Inter Miami reached the club’s co-owner in Japan – via a bedtime call.

“I was in Japan with my family and woke up at 5 a.m. because my phone kept vibrating,” the former England international told The Athletic. While electrified, the former Spice Girls star didn’t find it funny at all.

“My wife was like, ‘Really?! Turn off your phone!’” revealed the 48-year-old about the morning of June 7th. But things later took a turn for the better: “When Victoria woke up properly, she gave me a hug and that’s when I got emotional again.”

Beckham himself, on the other hand, was immediately excited. “I looked at my phone and I was like, ‘What happened? Something happened!’. I put my glasses on and I’m like, ‘Leo is coming! It is finished! He announced it!’” reported the former England captain.

David Beckham cheered up after Messi signing

World footballer Lionel Messi first announced in a television interview that he would move to Major League Soccer in Miami after two years at Paris Saint-Germain. His contract through 2025 is expected to bring him between $50 million and $60 million a year.

For Beckham, signing the 36-year-old world champion from Argentina was like the greatest moment in his football career. “I thought that as an owner I would never feel the same as I did as a player. When I got the call I had the same feeling I had when I played at Old Trafford or at Wembley,” he said.
