David Beckham gives Instagram account to Ukrainian doctor to encourage 71.5 million followers to donate to Unicef

David Beckham has given control of his Instagram account to a doctor in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine.

The former professional footballer has 71.5 million followers on the social network and is now using his platform to encourage his followers to donate to Unicef, who are in Ukraine helping those affected.

Beckham has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2005

Since Sunday, Beckham’s Instagram posts have been a selection of videos and photos posted by Ukrainian doctor Iryna, demonstrating the terrifying conditions facing pregnant women and new mothers amid the country’s conflict with Russia.

Iryna, who is a pediatric anesthesiologist and director of the city’s regional perinatal center, explained that she and her team are now working around the clock to care for the women despite the ongoing invasion.

On the former Manchester United star’s page, the doctor said: “We are probably risking our lives, but we don’t think about it at all. We love our work.

“Doctors and nurses here, we worry, we cry, but none of us will give up.”

Unicef is currently providing Ukrainian families with access to clean water and food, delivering kits to maternity hospitals, such as oxygen machines, and ensuring child protection services continue.
