He may be the world’s most famous scientist, but he is certainly the most famous biologist and popularizer of science on our planet. When Sir David Attenborough set up Instagram a few days ago, he tore down all his counters almost immediately. In a few tens of minutes, he broke all the records set by any world celebrity. The first million followers were acquired by a famous scientist in just four hours and 44 minutes.
The current world record in this statistic was held by actress Jennifer Aniston, who last October won her first million followers on Instagram in five hours and 16 minutes.
However, by joining Instagram, Sir David Attenborough quickly left behind other great personalities of this social network. Pope Francis, celebrity Kim Kardashian and her sister Kylie Jenner, and even the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (they collected the first million on Instagram last year in five hours and 45 minutes).
Sir David Attenborough wants to use his account, which had 4.2 million followers on Sunday morning, primarily to spread the message of protecting the environment, saving endangered animal and plant species on Earth, and raising awareness about protecting the world’s oceans.
The famous popularizer of science has dedicated his entire life to these topics – and in his case it really means almost a century. Sir David Attenborough is, after all, only three weeks younger than the reigning British Queen Elizabeth II.
And it was with the Queen’s grandson and also with one of the next British kings, Prince William, that Sir David Attenborough imaginaryly “celebrated” his current success. And not only with him, but especially with his three children: seven-year-old Prince George and five-year-old Princess Charlotte, along with two-year-old Prince Louis, are huge fans of Attenborough’s documentaries.
According to their parents, all three “love everything about prehistory, fossils and dinosaurs” and happily read books with their father and watch all films on the subject.
Therefore, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have now decided to take an unconventional step. David Attenborough’s latest documentary had its world premiere in their backyard homes.
